Have you attended the Breakin' It Down Conference previously? We are looking for 10 experienced reviewers, as part of the Conference Committee.
Reviewers are needed to evaluate proposals for workshops to be held at the 2025 Breakin' It Down Conference. Reviewers ensure the quality and integrity of the conference program. Ideally, they also provide a valuable service by providing concrete feedback on their work, regardless of whether a proposal is accepted to the 2025 Breakin' It Down Conference.

Key Responsibilities
Qualifications: Minimum 5-10 years’ experience either through work or volunteering in a similar position or carrying out similar functions. Proposals are reviewed for relevance, proposal alignment and quality, participant experience and outcomes achievability, and engagement and knowledge transfer.
Requirements: Regular access to a computer is required because all review work is completed online, and communications primarily take place via email.
Anyone who is selected to serve as a proposal peer reviewer and successfully completes the review of proposals by the deadline(s) communicated will receive one non-transferable, complementary registration for the 2025 Breakin' It Down Conference.

We are looking for three experienced reviewers, who have attended the Breakin' It Down Conference previously and/or a recipient of a BID Award.. By invitation only.

The Conference Committee is looking for dedicated and detail-oriented volunteers to serve as moderators for the plenary session and workshops at the 2025 Breakin' It Down Conference on Friday, October 24. Moderators will play a crucial role in ensuring the smooth operation of the sessions. This includes timekeeping, taking detailed minutes, and assisting with workshop coordination and finalization alongside the Conference Committee's Logistics Manager.

Ability to manage time effectively and keep sessions on track
Comfortable working collaboratively with diverse teams and participants

COMPLEMENTARY REGISTRATION: As a Breakin’ It Down Volunteer, you will receive a non-transferable complementary full conference access, including pre-conference workshops, if any are offered, and meals during the in-person conference, keynote/plenary, a workshop, BID Awards ceremony, and networking opportunities with changemakers in the field from across the Chicago area!
Please Note: depending on a volunteer position, shifts may overlap. We will try to accommodate requests but you may be unable to attend all sessions.
RECOGNITION: Volunteers will be recognized on Breakin’ It Down’s website! We will also provide a certificate of hours completed for your records.

We are mindful of time and capacity. Time commitments vary according to the area in which you choose to volunteer. The specifics will be discussed with you by a Conference Committee member once your application is received.
In 2025, we ask for a commitment of 10 hours to volunteer, to support the Breakin' It Down Conference.
No, volunteers with Breakin' It Down do not get paid for their work or reimbursed for transportation.
In gratitude for your commitment and service, we offer a non-transferable complementary full conference registration and recognition. We also provide a certificate of hours worked.

Yes, volunteers engaged in the field and looking to complete community service hours for school or another nonprofit organization are able to do so at Breakin' It Down. Volunteers are responsible for tracking their hours and must obtain appropriate BID signatures every time they volunteer in order to receive verification of the hours.
Unfortunately, we are unable to accommodate court-ordered community service at this time..
Our work is largely web-based and needs online interaction in the form of email, Zoom, or Teams. Onsite conference roles are in a fast-paced environment and require immediate interaction with diverse groups.

We would love to welcome all volunteers looking for new experiences, but some of our roles do need volunteers with certain skills and experience. Training beginners for a role may also depend on how many experienced volunteers can train them. The position’s description shows the experience and time requirements for the position.
